Tsunami Sushi

Tsunami Sushi

Destination: Jaco

Tsunami has a contemporary, bare concrete style with dim white lighting, black leather upholstery and house techno playing on the stereo. One of two restaurants in town that roll fresh fish in rice and wrap it in seaweed, Tsunami specializes in its tempura-fried creations.

The most popular menu item is the sunburn roll, $13; a stack of baked tempura shrimp California rolls shaped into balls, sprinkled with panko breadcrumbs, eel sauce and topped with spicy aoli. Crunch rolls, $11, get their name from the lightly-tempura fried, crispy rolls that are filled with tempura shrimp, crab avocado and cucumber.  The mixed nigiri, $14, is the chef's selection of three different types of fish like tuna, salmon and marlin; lacked the finesse and freshness of the other dishes.

Ambiance

A sushi bar curves around the back corner while the cocktail bar sits at the opposite end of the restaurant by the windows overlooking Jaco's main street in this chic-urban restaurant.
